It seems that Social Media is the only medium that Internet Marketers want to talk about at the moment and there are some really cool Social Media sites hitting cyberspace almost daily.

IM Faceplate has caused quite a stir and Sweeva is an incredibly innovative and revolutionary spin on a traditional (am I allowed to say that when it comes to Internet Marketing) advertising medium.

Everybody’s talking about them and so they should – they’re quality networking programs, but their are some great Internet Marketing Social Media sites that you may not be aware of.

Here are a couple with my thoughts on each one and they’re relative value.

List Volta is first cab off the rank and I confess to having totally underestimated this resource.  AT first glance List Volta is a Safelist produced by the owners of the Iconic Herculist – perhaps the oldest online safelist.  Safelist members are allowed to randomly mail between 500 and the entire database of members on a daily basis dependent upon membership level.  Members at List Volta earn NOKS (advertising points) for viewing ads.  These points can then be applied to various on site advertising options within the site.

For a long time I didn’t see the point, but on closer inspection the advertising options within the site are really quite innovative.

These include

1. Volta Super stream – a facility enabling you to post a blurb about your latest offer or product.  these blurbs pop up on site throughout the day and are viewable from within the site itself.  Bottom line is that they generate traffic.
2. Volitivity Stream- a simple ad that appears within the List Volt and Herculist sites- you can subnit new ads regularly
3. CHAT facility
4. BLOG- for upgraded members only – another way to generate backlinks to your site
5. TEXT AND BANNER ADVERTISING – rotated regularly throughout the site

This an interesting site with an active membership base, a sound administration and appears to be evolving as it progresses.  I recommend that you join at the very least as a free member.

Next cab off the rank is Sokule.  This is a brilliant concept that perhaps is not being used by the Internet Marketing community to anywhere near its full potential.  As the banner says – Sokule is Twitter monetized (i.e it has an affiliate program)

AT a basic level Sokule allows members to “Tweet” their messages to other Sokule members.  These messages are then picked up by Sokule and automatically tweeted on twitter for you as well.  There are many more options for Pro members including integration of your Sokule posts – I think they’re called ” Soks” across a variety of Social networking channels.

The thing that doesn’t grab me about Sokule is that I seem to be besieged by hundreds of “Twitidiots” who have nothing to offer other than they’re affiliate link .  This isn’t a reflection on the site, but the membership – or maybe Ive just been unlucky.

Apsense was in many senses way ahead of its time, utilizing the power of Web 2.0 to build an Internet Marketing Networking community long before sites such as Facebook were even thought of.

This site is packed with networking and advertising potential and is worth investigating.

The keys with all of these sites is not to sell but to concentrate on building relationships.  Good businesses are built on strong relationships.  Spend your time spamming everybody with your affiliate link and you’re social media marketing will fail.  On the other hand,if you take a genuine interest in people, and look to genuinely help them, you will see good results over time.

Back in my banking days, I had to fill out endless reports on a plethora of largely useless information.  You could pretty much bank on me getting curt reminders from officious admin staff demanding that I complete their weekly toilet roll return (I’m only half joking) or something equally absurd on a daily basis.  there was one report however, that I completed on time every time.

It was my sales funnel report.

In it I had to detail the number of Housing Loan conversations my branch had initiated, followed by the number of leads, prospects, sales and very importantly cross sales that followed.

In Australian banking, the ultimate Sales Funnel is A Housing loan -you can easily cross sell nine or ten product off the back of the Housing interview because everything fits neatly hand in glove.  Completing the report made sense and was a useful management tool.

A sales funnel is essential in any form of marketing but probably more so in online marketing.

You still need to generate leads, turn them into prospects and ultimately customers.

I’m plugging the leaks in my sales funnel – are you?

When I was just eight years old I joined the local Australian Rules  little league Under 10 side.  My coach must have been a mighty man.  We were all eight or nine.  He organized us to play to position and he taught us to play for the team.

Some of us struggled to win a possession in a game that inspired Joe Satriani to write a tune called Kill The Guy With The Ball, but we all worked for each other and played for the common good.

We came from fourth place to win the Grand Final and we did it because we were a team.  It’s funny, nearly forty years later I can remember the names of all my teammates, from our inspiring Captain Ross “Gutsy” Gear to the twentieth man (2nd reserve) Daryl Bath.

What I learned from Mr Warren, I carried through in every team that I’ve ever played for and coached.  We play for each other – there is one goal and we’re only as good as our weakest link.

I’ve played in successful teams at higher levels but none had the magic of that first premiership.

What I’m saying is that I hold the team concept very dear to me.  I believe passionately in people working together for a common goal and playing for each other.

So when I see Internet Marketing “teams” forming I’m interested in a curious sense.

Right now there are some heavy team marketing efforts.

They all concentrate on MLM products (now there’s a surprise) and on the face of it they’re very attractive specially to the struggling or new internet marketer looking for a quick and easy way to make some income.

Every one’s working for each other they spruik, every one works for the common good, no one gets left behind.

Remember the  team concept  is close to my heart.

I wouldn’t join an Internet Marketing team under any circumstances.

Here is why.

They’re MLM based – the very nature of MLM means that the “team” is giving greater benefit to the team leaders then to the people on the bottom.

Secondly the nature of MLM matrices means that for people to make serious money with them the matrix has to be filled down four, five or six levels.

Thirdly as the team grows, it needs more members to fill the funnel and while the team owners will argue that the recruiting is always the same, the truth is that its not, because no matter what, people lose intyerest, cancel memberships and drop away, leaving holes to be constantly filled in the matrix.

While this is happening people at the lower levels grow impatient and guess what?  They cancel memberships.

And so while there is heaps of hype, and at times it may feel like you’re the only one not swept up in the team hysteria, it’s almost certain that within twelve months the teams will have imploded under their own weight of false expectations.

ANd here is the other thing that perhaps concerns me more than anything.

MLM is a good marketing model as long as the product being offered gives real value.

A team marketing effort places no value on the product – it’s all about the income stream and that is scary spelled with a capital S.  The very nature of the marketing plan and the material attracts people likely to be attracted to Ponzi schemes.

I’m not sure of the legal ramifications of taking a quality product like Traffic Wave and simply marketing the pay plan without drawing attention to the real benefits that the product offers, but I sure don’t want to argue the point in court.

Far better to recommend products and services because they’re products are good then to be trapped in to selling a pyramid scheme.

Automated Twitter posts drive me mad.  You can pick them after about 10 minutes and I often wonder what sort of response rate they get.

That said, I have to confess that I am seriously under utilizing Twitter and the potential to see needs and act  on them is virtually limitless.  People will often Tweet something to the effect that they're looking for a new TV, some anti virus solution, an iPad, whatever.

If I were tenacious, patient and somehow amused by watching Tweets all day, it would be possible to build multiple niche targeted Twitter accounts build an army of followers and then Tweet CPA offers when a need is tweeted.

But frankly I'm to busy to sit watching Titter all day, building followers in niches that I'm not passionate about so that I can tweet CPA offers to them – I use Twitter to try and build relationships in the niches that I'm passionate about and to be fair I don't do it any where well or often enough.

But the potential of Twitter drives me nuts.

I found this little program intriguing.

Twitter is a social networking tool and it's growth is frankly staggering.

People are tweeting needs everyday. 

A little niche specific market research and membership of some quality CPA type site like Maxbounty and XY7 or maybe even Commission Junction could pay off quite handsomely using this tool.

Is it abuse or spamming?

No, I don't think so because the software responds naturally to Tweeted needs.

Much more than a web hosting service.  Site Build It takes you by the hand and teaches you how to construct a search engine friendly web site from scratch.  Site Build It provides you with strong education, quality tools and even a back linking service.  In many respects it is a one stop shop.  However, it has some limitations.  As far as I understand, Site Build It provides websites but does not provide blogging capability – nor does it enable you to build a membership site.

GVO again provides many more alternatives than a simple web hosting providers. If a Home Business Opportunity is worth promoting, then the advertising is worth tracking.

I see this as a vital aspect of my on line business and I would like to clear up a few misconceptions.

Firstly there are junk advertising resources and quality advertising resources and I would venture to say that every advertising medium from Pay Per click to Traffic Exchanges can be effective provided that you can fine the quality advertisers in the medium.

There is no question that Google's Pay per Click Advertising model gives you the opportunity to reach a vast array of targeted viewers.  However, most advertisers have no idea how to use the pay per click resource and give up after burning a couple of hundred dollars in advertising costs.   They then turn around and say it doesn't work.

There is no question that Safelist  advertising with responsive Safelists as assessed by an independent safelist tracking resource places your ad in front of many viewers interested in growing their online business.  The same thing applies when people use this form of advertising – they get no results and blame the advertising medium.

It isn't the advertising medium – its the ad.

That's why I use ad tracking – not to track the advertising service but to track the advertising's effectiveness.

I have used more Ad trackers than I care to name and I am now finding that I am relying more and more upon Google analytics to give me great data about what my ads are doing and where my traffic is coming from.

Google analytics provides raw data on traffic sources, length of time on site, page views etcetera.  When used in conjunction with Google adwords it can give you a cost/benefit analysis or return on investment (ROI).  However, it can also trap statistical geeks like me in to spending too much time wading through data.

That's why I find Mark Dulisse's SEO tool plugin a great tool that cuts through the dross and tells me what keywords are working, generates tags for those keywords and tells me my Google ranking for each keyword or phrase.

These two tools now form the basis for my ad tracking.

I also use the following services from time to time to track specific campaigns.

Viral Mail Profits allows me to track headline and ad copy  effectiveness with Safelist advertising

Traffic Wave besides being a great auto responding service has an in built ad tracking system.  I use it to track email click through rates mainly and used to use it extensively in various advertising campaigns

Vital Viral Pro allows me to track responsiveness to various splash and squeeze pages that I use – its the best tracker of its type that I've found and allows mt to split test two ads alongside each other and tehn tweak the lesser performing ad for better results.

Ad tracking is not a waste of time, it can be quite beneficial.  If  I can tweak an ad to get me one more sign up per 100 views it can mean the difference between break even and success.

I revisited what was Graham Hamer's Profit Plan today and was totally non-plussed as to why I haven't being promoting it.

The Profit plan originally took shape in 2002 and was marketed through Clickbank with the slogan Guaranteed Profit or One On One Guru Training Until You Make A profit.

It did massive business and was the forerunner to Internet Marketing staples like the Traffic Jam, Profit Blaster, Profit Arena and the X Factor Ciphers,
