Creating Home Business Opportunities With Twitter

O.K. I confess I'm no Twitter guru but it is an intriguing medium and presents a raft of possibilities for Home Business opportunities.
First and foremost, this post was firstly prompted by Tim Linden's post on his blog "Yes I unfollowed you on Twitter". As his wont – Tim made perfect sense and made me think about something I frankly have not paid enough attention to. That is whose posts I was viewing in Twitter and whose post's I wanted to see.
I was still thinking about his when I watched a great video from Kim Roach about adswapping and how she networked an adswap through Twitter.
Whoa hang on a minute – she negotiated an Adswap through Twitter!
She created a conversation, she followed up in a polite manner and she did a mutually beneficial business deal.
There it is – how to use Twitter responsibly, ethically and profitably in one video talking about something else entirely. It blew me away. It is just common sense, but sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees.
Inspired by Kim's video I went back to Twitter with the intention of creating some real conversations and I was instantly hit by the drivel coming from some of the people I was following. One person would make a post every five minutes stating exactly the same thing (obvious bot), another "professional marketer" made12 posts in the space of about 3 minutes – all of which contained an affiliate link, another bot informed me of bargains to be had shopping at discount stores in America.
Who are these people and how on earth did I end up following them?
I think I know how – it is considered wise to follow people who follow you – the more you appear on peoples lists the more likely you are to be "followed" by their followers. This may be OK if you are working in a specific niche- like Guitar lessons or fishing, but when you are working in a field as large and varied as Internet Marketing, you attract all the Tweet bots aimed at getting you to follow their owners.
It boils down to this, as it always does, Internet Marketing is a people business. No amount of automation and technology can replace the connection between two like minded people or between a person with a genuine need and somebody else with a genuine solution.
Used in the right fashion ala the Kim Roach method, Twitter can be a powerful networking tool, but misused and it is just another way of marking you as unprofessional. Spam is spam no matter what the medium.
I've already started un-following people I can see no obvious connection with, I suggest that you do the same.

I am glad that you responded to Tim LInden's comment, I was and still am a little bit confused in how to use Twitter properly. If a person does not want to follow you they have a right to do so. If you try and promote before the follower knows you it is your own fault for being to aggressive.
Social networking and list building have several things in common. You have to build a relationship with them and offer them only what they are interested in. If they are not interested in what you have to offer then it is best to accept it and move on.
Tweet bots can be just as annoying as auto responder messages. Maybe I lost a follower because of mine and I deserve it, They were not being offered what the person was interested in.
One thing I have learned form people like you and Jon Olson is promote you first. If you do that you
will have a better chance of promoting other things to someone.
