I can’t see any value in adflashers

There’s a program enjoying enormous popularity at the moment called Adflashers and I was alerted to it’s existence in a forum run by a well known Internet Marketing identity.

Curiously, said identity would not mention the name of the program in the forum but directed readers to a secure site to sign up.  Now, I asked myself at the time why would they do that?  Furthermore, the same identity stated that the program “appeared legal” but warned “nothing good lasts forever.”  Talk about having an each way bet.

Does anybody hear warning bells?  I did.

But in the interests of my subscribers I decided to do some investigation of this “amazing product that people could earn $100 per day from just by clicking ads”

I “Invested” $15 in the program’s view packs to see what would happen., knowing full well that I would in all likelihood never see the money again.

Close examination of the site revealed that it exhibited all the characteristics of a doubler – a program that pays you double your investment after enough stupid people buy into the program after you, with the exception that in adflashers case they had worked a funded proposal (on paper anyway)

The premise of the scheme is (was) this .

The program attracts advertisers looking for proven paying viewers.  These advertisers pay $4 per 1000 “ad impressions” – with a guaranteed click through rate of 4.6% or 46 click throughs – so the advertiser is paying about 10c per click

To ensure that only “paying viewers” buy Deltasone online view the sites, the viewers must purchase 100 view packs at a cost of $15.

When they have successfully viewed the 100 view packs, they receive $30 back (double their money).  Typically each view pack contains 27 matrices of flashing ads, within these matrices, an ad will start to countdown.  the viewer must click on that ad before the timer runs down and then allow the advertisement to load completely and allow sufficient time to view the ad in its entirety.  My experience suggests that the viewer would click on approximately 300 ads over the course of the entire 100 view pack, thereby “earning” 10c per click.  Here is where you require some mental  mathematical gymnastics to understand why the concept appears to be better than fully funded.

Advertiser is paying 10c per click approximately
Viewer is earning 10c per click approximately

But Viewer has paid approximately 5c per click to view theads, so the program would appear to be profitable and legitimate.

But there are some logistical problems.
The first is the ads themselves.  They are completely untargeted.  I saw ads from greenhouses in America, I saw ads for business opportunities.  I saw ads for weight loss.  I saw ads for ice makers, local dress shops – You name it.  Now you have to ask yourself who would really advertise on such an untargeted medium.  Getting click through rates is one thing, but getting click through rates because the viewer wants to double their money is entirely another.  People may try this form of advertising once, but they won’t try it again, because IT WON’T WORK.

And then what happens?

People who pay to view ads won’t be able to see them, because there wil be no ads to see.

To adflashers credit, they make this abundantly clear in their terms and conditions and they claim that they won’t make ad packs available unless advertisers have paid for advertising.  This sounds good but in practice has proven to be false unless I misunderstood something (we’ll get to that in a minute)

Now as for the “earning” task of viewing ads.

It’s excruciatingly boring.

There I ‘ve said it and don’t resile from it.  Sitting in front of a computer watching ads flash, waiting for a timer to countdown so I can earn 10c is demeaning.  There are easier, better ways to make money.  Even if this site is legitimate, they are essentially enslaving cheapest price for cialis you to sit in front of your computer and view ads.  Hello? you are better than that, much better.

Yes I use Traffic Exchanges and click for advertising credits, but I do it with purpose and drive and I make much more than $15 per hour (and once I have  a profitable campaign I just buy the credits).  Yes I have and still do recommend several “Paid to Read” programs to help people earn some “seed money” but I never claim that they can earn a living wage just clicking ads.

The program  may be well intentioned, but to my mind simply cannot last.

By the way, the $15 I paid  (and the $15 I earned) is still being held by Flasherads as funds pending and frankly,I can’t understand why.  I mean if somebody bought advertising,I’ve viewed it, it should be a fully funded transaction, but apparently it isn’t.  I don’t expect to see my $30 any time soon.

Yesterday I received an email from Flasherads and I post its contents for you to read below.

AdFlasher.net Important Update – 09/17/2009

We have been listening to feedback and reviewing the situation with View Packs.  Since View Pack sales are limited based on Ad Pack sales it has become nearly impossible to purchase them.  We understand it’s not fair for us to create a situation where members have to constantly check the Buy View Packs page to see if any are available.

Consequently we have explored numerous other options.  These options included auctions, reservation systems, random allocation and a few others.  We were not satisfied that any of these options were the best solution.

We have reviewed our business model and have decided to make Ad Views free.  Each completed view will pay $0.10. These free Ad Views will be assigned to members on a weekly basis based on Ad Pack sales from the previous week.  Members may now upgrade and create a premium account.  Premium members will receive free Ad Views with a higher priority.  Premium memberships are $60 and expire 1 year from the date of purchase.

Additionally, we are aware that none of you are happy about the pending funds.  With this new system your earnings from completed views will be available immediately.  There will no longer be any pending funds.

If you still have pending funds in your account please be advised that you will be paid as per the original terms.  AdFlasher.net is a new concept in advertising delivery and we might not get things right the first time.  We are confident that this new model will allow us to cialis without prescription grow and will dramatically increase the speed that pending funds are released.

Normally with a change such as this we would release advance notice.  In our case it was important that we move fast in order to do what was best for our existing user base.  Referral commissions have not changed.  You will receive referral commissions on all premium membership purchases at the standard rate of 10%.

Happy Flashing
The AdFlasher Team

I make the following comments.

If this is truly a unique business model as adflasher claim, then surely they would have put he program through the hoops prior to launch and been confident that their business model would stand up to whatever demands it was subjected to.
Furthermore, Adflasher claimed in its initial sales pitch that it was “extremely attractive” to advertisers because they’re site would only be seen by paying customers.  Suddenly this isn’t so important anymore.  Suddenly they can make the adviews “free” and pay 10c per click.  It doesn’t make sense.

Do not get involved in this program unless you’re fully prepared to lose your money.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the review. I did earn a net profit of around $65 before they implemented their changes that you posted above. I knew they would have a problem balancing ad viewers with advertisers, but it still seemed legit to me since they are keeping everyone updated. I have a “wait and see” attitude with this one. After the 27th, they are supposed to start assigning adpacks, but like you said, it may be tough to keep enough advertisers coming back. I did hear from one individual who advertised on their site. They bought 10,000 impressions and received 8 signups into a program. Another test gave them around 50 subscribers. Hey, I was willing to spend 90 minutes each day if it meant an extra $450 a month. Too bad it did not work out that way.

    Hi Victor

    Good to hear from you.
I imagine that if you constructed an advertising campaign directly related to the people likely to view Adflasher, it would work.
However, the vast majority of ads were directly related to “real world” goods and services – everything from swimming pools, to garden products. This is what I mean by untargeted and the likelihood of these advertisers beimg repeat advertisers is very small,I would think.

  • Fascinating thoughts here. Are you sure this is the correct way to look at it though? My experience is that we should pretty much live and let live because what one person ponders as just — another person simply doesn’t. People are going to do what they want to do. In the end, they always do. The most we can wish for is to reveal a few things here and there that hopefully, allows them to make just a little better informed decision. Otherwise, great post. You’re definitely making me think! –Bruce
